Rotary Screw Compressor Market: Overview

A mechanical device that increases the pressure of gas by decreasing its volume is known as compressor. Rotary screw compressor is a type of gas compressor, which uses the rotary-type positive displacement mechanism. It is primarily used to operate high-power tools or heavy industrial applications instead of piston compressors where large volume of high pressure air is required. In the gas compression process, there is some amount of pulsation or surging of flow compared to piston compressor.

Rotary screw compressor consists of two helical meshing screws known as rotors. Rotors helps compress the gas. The gas enters from the suction side and passes through threads, which rotate the screw. The meshing of male and female rotor forces the gas to pass through the compressor and exit at end of the screw. In gas screw compressor, the precise alignment of rotors is assured due to the application of timing gears. The efficiency of this mechanism relies on fitting clearance between the chamber and helical rotors. High rotational speed must be used to avoid leakages; however, some leakages are unavoidable. Rotary screw compressor has the ability to function in harsh and rough environments. Maintenance of screw compressor is simple. The heat generation and oil carry over is minimum. Rotary screw compressors are lighter, portable, and have low noise level. They work on the shock-less compression technology. This results in less overall wear and tear of the compressor.


Rotary Screw Compressor Market: Segmentation

The rotatory screw compressor market can be segmented based on type, technology, stage, and end-user. In terms of type, the rotary screw compressor market can be bifurcated into portable and stationary. Portable rotary screw compressors are movable compressors for onsite applications. They are the backbone of building and construction sites. Stationary rotary compressors are fixed compressors. They are not movable from one site to another. Stationary rotary compressors are primarily used in industrial applications where continuous compressed air is required.

Based on technology, the rotary screw compressor market can be classified into oil-injected rotary screw compressor and oil-free rotary screw compressor. In oil-free rotary screw compressor, the working medium is air. The air is compressed through the action of the screw. Oil seals are not required in oil-free rotary screw compressors. Their maximum discharge capacity is low. In oil-injected rotary screw compressor, oil and air is the working medium. The air is taken into the screw compressor and compressed with help of screw element. At the same point, oil is injected during compression. The compressed air leaves the compressor while the oil is cooled, filtered and sent back to screw element.

In terms of stage, the rotary screw compressor market can be segregated into single stage and multistage. The air is compressed once in a single stage compressor, while it is usually compressed twice in a multistage compressor. Multistage screw compressors are used for large-scale applications, while single stage compressors are employed for small-scale purposes.

Based on end-user, the rotary screw compressor market can be divided into food & beverages, oil & gas, manufacturing, power generation and others.
